Shelter by Cinch: The Best Compact Waterproof Tent
Shelter by Cinch is the best waterproof camping shelter. We've been on a personal quest to find the best waterproof shelter for camping for six months now. Options range from the very expensive Helinox Electronic Hangers to the more affordable (but not too good) hexagonal tarps that you can buy at any local adventure store. There didn't seem to be any quality intermediaries until we stumbled upon this amazing solution aptly named "Shelter" created by Cinch.
Cinch is the creation of Jake Jackson, a lifelong camper whose quest to find the perfect tent left him to solve the problem on his own. It launched its first pop-up tent, The Hub, in 2019 and has since been set to launch the best camping tent we've ever seen at this price point. Let's look at this.
Cinch's Shelter was developed by Jake Jackson during the lockdown. A tarp hybrid in its own right, he combines the coolest elements of a professional tarp setup into one great, go-anywhere package.
The shelter can be assembled and dismantled by one person in just minutes, making travel less stressful and giving you more time to enjoy your adventures. It also fits in a fairly compact cylindrical nylon case that is 60 cm long and 20 cm wide (23.6 x 7.9 inches). Inside you'll find a shelter tarp, carry bag, crescent entry pole, and two center poles. 9 attachable storm straps, 15 pegs, and a practical repair kit.
Most importantly, the Shelter by Cinch is made from 3,000 HH ripstop polyester with heat-sealed seams and SPF 50+ UV resistance. As for durability, 3,000 HH ripstop polyester is a material that can withstand a 3,000 mm water column. In short, the waterproof material is shaped to withstand the elements as well as provide maximum shade and sun protection.
The included shock cord wand forms the arched main entrance and is made of flexible fiberglass. Two carbon steel poles lift the roof, while Storm straps and pegs lower the tarp in all weather. The size of the entire structure when assembled is 200 cm high, 380 cm wide, and 285 cm long (78.7 x 149.6 x 112.2 inches).
I've included a link to purchase Shelter by Cinch from the Kickstarter link below. Tents are available for him starting at US$239 (AUD$350) using the Early Bird Offer and come complete with shelter canvas, oxford carry bag, crescent entry pole, 2 center poles, 15 pegs, repair kit, and 9 storm straps. Included. The promotional special includes the same kit and is priced at $299, so we recommend jumping on this early bird special.
